The Gold Tone IT-17 Irish Tenor Banjo is a reasonably priced   tenor banjo with a 12" rim.

"The natural look of the maple wood on the neck and rim of this tenor banjo drew my attention to this instrument in the shop. Actually, I just wanted to try out a banjo. (At this point, a hearty opinion from me: If you want to enjoy playing, you should buy an instrument that sounds good. I first held a Harley Benton banjo in my hands and, unfortunately, like so far, everything I've heard from Harley Benton didn't sound worth calling yourself an instrument.)
I saw the Gold Tone, picked it up and the first time I tried it I was blown away! The sound is wonderfully full, extremely assertive (loud!) and present, inspiringly banjo-like and shimmering. I find the cloverleaf decorations on the fretboard enchanting for the Irish tenor - very successful. The Gold Tone is also easy to play thanks to the Vega Style armrest. All I can say is this tenor banjo is my new favorite. I'm still learning and I enjoy every game and practice. I think the instrument is absolutely worth its price!" dmdm

"I've been playing Irish tunes on the fiddle for many years. Now I wanted to try it on the Irish Tenor Banjo. So I bought the 17fret because of the proximity to the violin. The fretboard on the banjo is a little longer. But I'll make the transition. I like the instrument very much from the optics and the processing. The tones are clean. All strings can be played without any problems. I am completely satisfied with my new beautiful banjo." Michael
